MGTS also transferred trust management of most of its subsidiaries, including Moscow Cellular Communications, Interregional Transit Telecom, and Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), to Sistema. Yevtushenkov served as chairman of the board of TV Center from 1997 to 1999.

In 2001, MTS acquired Telecom-XXI, a mobile operator in St. Petersburg, outright. In March 2003, Yevtushenkov’s holding company acquired a 10% stake in Deutsche Telekom, a German company with a large stake in MTS.
