Turkish Foreign Minister says Turkey wants to set up new mechanisms for grain from Russia and Ukraine.

UN, Ukraine, Russia, and Turkey are currently negotiating to create a new system for exporting grain to international markets, according to Hakan Fidan.

According to the Turkish foreign minister, Turkey wants to create a new system for exporting grains from Russia and Ukraine, following its ground-breaking work on the Black Sea corridor, which has been praised worldwide for averting a global food crisis.

“There are ongoing discussions, particularly involving the UN, Russia, Ukraine, and Türkiye for how can we develop a new method for the transportation and logistics of grain to the world markets, focusing primarily on the Black Sea,” Hakan Fidan told a private news organization late on Sunday.

“As you are aware, the prior grain agreement worked within a particular framework. It has now been noted that an alternative mechanism could be used instead of that one. We are working to make that a reality right now,” he continued.

Fidan clarified that a mutually beneficial solution to the grain problem will benefit all countries, citing the fact that Russian ships have been cut off from grain sales and Ukrainian ships are unable to travel via Black Sea routes due to the risk of attacks.

“At the moment, some Ukrainian ships are ostensibly moving grain. They are being taken away and loaded down with grain. There are no Russians in this area. We hope to use the current new mechanism to somewhat formalize this de facto situation,” Fidan stated. All rights reserved.

Referring to the circumstances following the unexpected collapse of the Black Sea Grain Initiative of 2022–2023, which Türkiye co-negotiated and co-implemented, he said that the grain crisis has caused a food crisis in developing nations and has seriously affected global prices, causing humanitarian problems.

In the context of ongoing US airstrikes on groups backed by Iran, which started last Friday, Fidan also issued a warning about a possible regional escalation.

When you play with fire, it has the potential to flare up at any time and become out of control. The issue of uncontrollability is there as a threat to us, and we are facing a risk,” he stated.

“We need to avoid the spread (of confrontation) in the region,” Fidan stated, adding that Turkey is in continuous talks with the US and its regional allies. It’s not a good situation. We might encounter a more widespread conflict,” he stated.

Fidan emphasized that while Israel’s security is always a concern, it places more emphasis on territorial expansion than security.

He claimed that once Israel grants the Palestinians their state and ceases “telling lies” to the international community, it will feel secure.
