US Air Defense Systems in the Middle East: Russia Claims Move Will Worsen Regional Situation

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman says region needs swift Palestinian-Israeli conflict deescalation, 'not US provocations in form of arms shipments'

US Air Defense Systems in the Middle East: The efforts made by Washington to control the Middle East peace process, while overlooking the root causes of the prolonged conflict, have predominantly resulted in the present dire consequences,” stated Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, on Thursday.

At a press conference in Moscow, Zakharova stated in response to an inquiry from Anadolu that the US air defense systems stationed there will only make the already unstable situation worse.

“What the region needs is an early de-escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and not provocations by the US in the form of supplies, deployment of the aforementioned missile systems,” she said.

Zakharova argued that these steps are consistent with the US goal of enhancing its own security, even at the expense of greater tensions that may spread throughout the Middle East and beyond.

Over the past six to seven years, at all negotiations with Western countries in which Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, took part, the same idea was constantly voiced: Without a settlement and resolution, or at least very close attention and facilitating the dialogue of the parties, the dialogue of mediators on the Palestinian-Israeli track of the Middle East settlement, the situation will degrade,” she said.

Zakharova said she witnessed talks on the conflict with many sides, where Western representatives showed “complete disregard” for the topic.

“The bet was either on a forceful solution or on some financial and economic ways of protracting the situation, maybe even with noble goals, mistakenly believing that money can solve this issue,” she said.

She stated that the decision to put air defense systems in place is “incorrect” and will cause the situation to worsen much more.

“There is an absolutely clear, understandable road, a roadmap for settlement. Difficult, complicated, painful, but leading to the solution of the issue, not its aggravation,” she noted.

Zakharova declared that arming people, erecting more security complexes, or installing air defense systems would not address the problem.

“Today’s lesson—it must be learned. Although Americans have already deployed many military bases, sent many of their experts, and launched many satellites in the region, nothing has worked to prevent a bloody scenario of which both Palestinians and Israelis are victims,” she added.

The Israeli settlers’ growing hostility toward Palestinians and their previous incursion into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to the Palestinian terrorist group, were the reasons behind the invasion.

After that, the Israeli military began an ongoing attack on Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip.

There have been almost 8,500 deaths from the fighting, including about 7,028 Palestinian deaths and 1,400 Israeli deaths.

The 2.3 million people residing in Gaza are facing a shortage of fuel, food, water, and medical supplies, and the humanitarian convoys that have been allowed entry into the region have only partially supplied the aid that is needed.
