Billionaire Receives Luminance Megayacht in Total Confidentiality

I mean, any one of us would probably be shouting it from the rooftops, but we’re not exactly familiar with the lifestyle of the billionaire. As demonstrated by the total secrecy surrounding the delivery of the Luminance megayacht, discretion is the name of the game.

Luminance is a highly controversial build and one of the largest superyacht deliveries in recent memory. Now that it has been delivered to its owner, Luminance, a German luxury shipyard’s creation, is officially a megayacht due to its size, making it the 15th largest in the world by length.

With four decks and a total length of 476 feet (145 meters), Project Luminance offers the best luxury amenities available along with an interior volume of 9,861 GT. Though it has been under construction with Lurssen for years, it wasn’t until 2022 that it caught the attention of the world’s media, as the owner’s management casually revealed in an interview that he was considering selling it before it was finished.

The owner is billionaire Rinat Akhmetov, the richest man in Ukraine. He is controversial not because of his estimated net worth of $7.3 billion but rather because of claims that he may have gotten assistance from Putin, a friend of his. After his Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol came under Russian control in May 2022, Akhmetov’s management made public the alleged plans for a sale, raising doubts about whether this was a publicity stunt meant to repair his reputation.

Luminance Yacht

It’s unclear if Akhmetov ever followed through on this plan, but Lurssen finished the construction. Sea trials were conducted on Luminance in April 2023 and again in September 2023 while the luxurious interiors were being completed.

Luminance was delivered this week, according to a trade publication. The owner was not present at the private event. After leaving the Lurssen Lemwerder facility, Luminance is currently traveling to Kristiansand, Norway, where the owner will receive it in person.

The megayacht’s internal codename, Project Luminance, will undoubtedly change after the owner takes delivery. In addition to its size, the luxurious ship is remarkable for its contrasting superstructure, navy blue hull with golden accents, and impressive list of amenities that are only visible from the outside. They have two helipads, three pools (a large pool and two oversized jacuzzis), and plenty of places to lounge.

Built on the Lurssen naval platform, Luminance features an interior design by Zuretti Interior Design and an exterior design by Espen Oino. If internet rumors are to be believed, the project’s ultimate cost could range from $300 million to $700 million. Luminance, whatever its new name may be, was intended for lavish entertaining.
