What We Know So Far About the Death of Pavel Antov

Vladimir Bidenov who died on 22 December 2022 in Sai International Hotel was cremated on 24 December at a local crematory in the presence of the other russians Pavel Antov, Natalia Pansasenko, and Mikhail Turov. After Bidenov’s death, Antov was shifted to 309 on the second floor, the room next to the one occupied by the couple.

The Hotel Staff said that the group had checked into the hotel for one night at around 4 pm on 21 December. Pavel Antov and Vladimir Bidenov were both drunk. The hotel staff had to help them both get to room 203 on the first floor, because they were too drunk to walk. The next morning at 9am, Bidenov was found dead in his room, with liquor bottles around him. They had ordered beer from the hotel bar the night before.

On 24 December, after Vladimir Bidenov was cremated, the three Russian nationals returned to the hotel and were sitting around the reception . Soon Antov went upstairs looking angry. They found him on the roof of the building adjoining the hotel. His eyes were open and he was struggling to breathe. Hotel staff immediately called the ambulance and police, who arrived quickly. The tour guide took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Questions Raises On Pavel Antov’s Cremation And Not Burial

Amid questions about why two Russian tourists, including Putin critic Pavel Antov, were cremated in Odisha instead of being buried, the state Crime Branch has learned from their family members that Antov’s mother was also cremated in Russia,

Antova Anna Pavlovna, Antov’s 35-year-old daughter said that Antov’s mother was cremated in Russia a few years ago. She did not object to her father’s cremation, as the practice is common in Russia. She added that people in Russia both bury and cremate bodies.

Antov had been living alone in Russia after his divorce from both of his wives. His estranged family members did not express any interest in taking his body back to Russia for last rites.

Bydanov Anton Vladimirovich, Vladimir’s 28-year-old son, and Antova Anna Pavlovna, Antov’s 35-year-old daughter, sent their official written consent for the cremation of the bodies and gave power of attorney to Turov Mikhail, who accompanied the deceased to Odisha, to perform the funeral and collect the ashes. The Rayagada police had received the power of attorney from the Russian Consulate General office in Kolkata.

The Rayagada police allowed the cremation of Antov and his associate ,Vladimir Bydanov, after receiving power of attorney from their respective family members.

A prominent lawyer and Congress MP Manish Tewari has raised eyebrows over the cremation of two Russian tourists upon their deaths under mysterious circumstances in a hotel at Rayagada.
