Who Was Russian Oligarch Dmitry Zelenov ?

Dmitry Zelenov was the former owner of Russian developer Don-Stroy, which constructed the 61-story Triumph Palace Tower in Moscow, one of the tallest residential structures in Europe. Before the company fell under the control of Russia’s state-owned bank VTB after succumbing to the 2008 financial crisis, Zelenov’s net worth was estimated at $1.4 billion, landing him on the Forbes list of Russian billionaires.

Zelenov owned many upscale rental properties in Courchevel, France and Alpine, New Jersey.

In Moscow alone Zelenov’s car collection was more than 24, which included four Mercedes, two Bentleys, and one Rolls Royce.

After Dmitry Zelenov died , Zelenov’s widow, Natalia Dvoryanynova along with one of their sons Michael Zelenov, have filed suit against Zelenov’s parents and his adult daughter/financial advisor for allegedly cutting off access to Zelenov’s largest assets.

In the complaint, Zelenov’s wife and eldest son further allege they’ve lost access to rental proceeds from a luxury ski chalet in Courchevel, France, as well as a sprawling seven-bedroom estate (last assessed at US$5 million) set on 2.4 acres in the upscale enclave of Alpine, New Jersey, home to billionaire hedge founder Larry Robbins and celebrities like comedian Chris Rock. Dvoryanynova and her two children with Zelenov reside on the exclusive Fisher Island, the nation’s wealthiest zip code that’s only accessible from Miami by ferry (or yacht).

It’s unclear just how much Dmitry Zelenov ’s assets are now worth. The complaint lists bank accounts, jewelry, and cars. Dvoryanynova’s attorneys note that the assets include “tens of millions of dollars” in Russian real estate and as much as $90 million in France.  It seems that Dmitry Zelenov had a complicated web of trusts and LLCs surrounding his fortune that only he fully knew.

Jason Giller and Hilary Schein are the Miami-based attorneys representing Dvoryanynova and her oldest son.
